Lanyard Lanyard has been in use for many hundreds of years. In the old days it was a common tool to hand swords, knifes and even guns during battle. It was employed in variety of ways. Most commonly they are used for the purpose of insuring visibility and to keep something from losing. Sailors commonly refer to it as ‘rigging’ for securing sails. In context with projectiles it is referred to a cord tied with a hook at its end to be used for firing artillery or piece igniting fuse mechanism. The same is implied in air dropped bombs for pulling out the cotter pin and starting the firing mechanism. In terms of parachutes the main chord which has to be pulled in order to deploy the chute is also known as lanyard. Background of Lanyard The basic objective of this product is to keep things from losing in locations where there is a chance of dispossession. Originally they were used to keep the pistol, sword or whistles dangling with the uniform if the owner happened to lose grip over them. This made it a requisite part of the dress code of many armies and navies.
